- Keep important documents, (e.g.: I.D.; Passport; travel documents) on your person at all times. Never place these items into a bag that you intend to check.
- Keep a coat or warmer garment with your carry-on baggage if you can manage the extra bulk; it maybe a long time before you are able to gain access to the clothing in your checked bags.
- Pack bulkier items in vacuum sealed bags if you are able to iron or press them at your final destination; this can greatly help to keep your things organized and to save space.
- Weigh your bag(s) before you arrive at the airport if you are uncertain of the weight. Most domestic airlines require that your checked baggage weigh 50lbs or less; check with your airline if you are uncertain of your baggage weight limitations.
- Leave room in your checked baggage for souvenirs if you anticipate bringing items back with you and be sure that the items you are returning with are approved by all laws and regulations.
- Take a few minutes to walk around with any items that you will be carrying; many larger airports require a great deal of walking and some items may become very too heavy after a short period of time.
- Make sure that any electronic devices are easily accesses able for security inspection.
- Wear comfortable footwear if you are able; also be sure that your footwear is easily taken on and off as you will most likely need to do this in the security line.
- If packing snacks for the flight: do not pack liquids. In most cases your liquids will be discovered and discarded in the security line; though prices maybe a little high it will save time to purchase your drinks at the airport, after going through security.
